Privacy Policy
The Denver Post Corp. is committed to protecting the privacy of our customers.
The following statement discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for the denverpost.com Web site.
What personally identifiable information does DenverPost.com collect from me?
DenverPost.com collects information in several ways. Some information is gathered through server log files and from code embedded in DenverPost.com pages that records the browser preferences and settings of readers’ computers. Various types of personal information are gathered when you enter a contest or promotion, sign up for a discussion group, request vacation delivery stop, or when you post an online ad. During these instances, DenverPost.com asks for information such as your name, e-mail address, street address, zip code, phone number, subscriber status, and credit card number. We may also ask you for other information at other times. Whenever we collect information about you, we will make an effort to link to our privacy policy.
How is my information used?
Our primary goal in collecting personal information is to provide you with a customized experience. DenverPost.com uses information collected from server log files, such as IP addresses, to help diagnose problems with our services, to administer our Web site, and to report and gather aggregate information about site usage and user demographics. DenverPost.com also uses code included on every page on our site to track the traffic on pages and compile information about users, such as paths through the site, browsers used, time spent on site, frequency of return visits, etc. This system does not garner any personal information about our readers, such as names. DenverPost.com may share aggregated data with advertisers or business partners.
DenverPost.com also uses cookies to store and sometimes track information about you. A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a Web service and stored on your computer’s hard drive. DenverPost.com uses cookies to deliver targeted advertising based on your behavior or demographics and to track your number of entries in some of our promotions and contests. You can set your browser to refuse to accept cookies, but if you do, we will not be able to customize the DenverPost.com Web site’s features according to your preferences. Advertising networks that serve ads into our site, such as Real Media or DoubleClick, may also use their own cookies. For more information about Real Media’s use of cookies, visit http://www.realmedia.com/privacy.html. For more information about DoubleClick’s use of cookies, visit http://www.privacychoices.org.
With whom is my information shared?
When you are on an area of DenverPost.com and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information with The Denver Post Corp. and its related companies. If data is being collected and/or maintained by any other company, you will be notified prior to the time of the data collection or transfer. If you do not want your data to be shared, you can choose not to allow the transfer by not using that particular service.
Promotions and contests that run on DenverPost.com may be sponsored by companies other than DenverPost.com or may be co-sponsored by DenverPost.com and another company. Some or all data collected during a promotion or contest may be shared with the sponsor. If data will be shared, you will be notified prior to the time of data collection or transfer. You can decide not to participate in the promotion or contest if you don’t want your data to be shared.
DenverPost.com makes chat rooms, forums, message boards, and/or news groups available to our users. Some of these forums require registration. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.
Aggregate information compiled by DenverPost.com may be shared with advertisers and business partners as well as used by The Denver Post Corp. and its related companies.
We reserve the right to disclose information we maintain when required to do so by law or pursuant to a legal proceeding, including without limitation, in response to a court order or a subpoena.
Linked Sites
Please be aware that DenverPost.com’s promotional partners, advertisers, sponsors, third-party Internet sites, and content providers accessible through DenverPost.com may have their own privacy and data collection policies and practices. DenverPost.com is not responsible for any actions or policies of such third parties. Users should check the applicable privacy policies of those third parties when providing personally identifiable information through co-sponsored, affiliated or linked sites.
Children’s Guidelines
The Newspaper in Education program is a free service for teachers that promotes the use of newspapers in the classroom. The Colorado Kids section is specifically directed at students in grades 6 to 12. Within the Colorado Kids section, the Help Wanted, Back Talk and Joke pages allow students to send questions, comments, stories, jokes, ideas and opinions to DenverPost.com via email. The information requested on these pages is used solely for participation in the particular activity, and is not stored or sold to third parties. If a question, comment, story, joke, idea or opinion is published, only the student’s first name, grade and state/country appear on the site. Students are advised to consult with their parents before giving personal information online.

All content included on this site, such as text, software, photos, video, graphics, music, sound, and logos, is protected by copyrights, trademarks, and other rights, which are owned and/or controlled by DP Media Network LLC or by other parties. DP Media Network LLC owns a copyright in the selection, coordination arrangement and enhancement of such content, as well as the content original to it. Each third-party content provider owns the copyright in content original to it. You may use material from this site only for your own personal, non-commercial use. You acknowledge that you do not acquire any ownership rights by downloading copyrighted material.
Just as DenverPost.com requires users to respect our copyrights and those of our affiliates and partners, we respect the copyrights of others. If you believe in good faith that your copyrighted work has been reproduced on DenverPost.com without authorization in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, you may notify our designated copyright agent either by mail to Rebecca Risch, Digital Director DenverPost.com, 101 W. Colfax Avenue, Denver, Colorado, 80202 or by e-mail at rrisch@denverpost.com. This contact information is only for suspected copyright infringement. Contact information for other matters is provided elsewhere on this site.
Fair Use
The Denver Post has always taken copyright issues very seriously, both as a creator of content and as a user of other people’s content. In fact, everything that appears in a typical edition of the newspaper is copyright protected.
Nonetheless, our work is illegally reproduced everyday on websites across the country. The federal Copyright Act protects our right and our readers’ rights to make fair use of copyrighted content. We have no issue with people who quote a small amount of a Post story so as to comment on it, perhaps even criticize us. That’s the essence of free speech in a vigorous democracy.
But fair use of our content restricts those who want to reference it to reproduce no more than a headline and up to a couple of paragraphs or a summary of the story. (We also request users provide a link to the entire work on our website). The fair use rule generally does not entitle users to display the whole story or photograph on their website. To do so is a violation of our copyright and we will use all legal remedies available to address these infringements.
We understand people may want to share what they find interesting in our publication. This is a reminder that there is a right way to do it.
Finally, thank you for your continued support. We intend to remain a vital and trusted source for unique and unduplicated reporting on the concerns and issues affecting you and this community.

This site may contain links to other sites on the Internet (“Linked Sites”). DP Media Network LLC is not responsible for the content, advertising, products or other materials made available on or through any Linked Site. The links to these sites are for your convenience only, and you access them at your own risk. By posting opinions, comments, or ideas on DenverPost.com, you grant DP Media Network LLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sublicensable right to use, copy, reproduce, modify, display, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such reviews and comments throughout the world in any form, media, software or technology of any kind. DP Media Network LLC shall not be responsible for the similarity of any of its content or programming in any media to materials or ideas transmitted to DenverPost.com.
Submission
The Denver Post considers any content that you submit to the Post through its websites to be available and authorized for publication by the Post or its affiliates. You should understand that by submitting content to the Post, you are indicating both that you: (a) own the rights in the content, or that you otherwise have the right to authorize the Post to use the content; and (b) believe any information you have submitted is accurate and current. As a result, when you submit content to the Post, you should be sure that you actually have the right to authorize the Post to use the content. For example, just because you have a copy of a photograph, such as a yearbook picture, even when the photograph is a picture of you, your possession of that copy does not necessarily mean that you own the copyright in that photograph.
Assuming that you do actually own the rights in the content that you submit to the Post, you can rest assured that you are not giving up your ownership of the rights, including the copyright, in that content when you submit the content to the Post. But, you are giving the Post and its affiliates a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, copy, modify, create derivative works of, distribute, display, perform, archive and store, the content that you have submitted, for any purpose, in any form, media, or technology of any kind now existing or developed in the future for the full term of any rights that may exist in the content.
The bottom line is that under this license, you have no further right to control how the Post or its affiliates use the content you have provided, regardless of how the Post chooses to use that content, in whatever form, in whatever medium, for whatever purpose, forever.
And, you have agreed to give this license to the Post for no compensation other than the Post s agreement to provide attribution to you for the content.
If you do not wish to convey this license to the Post, then you should not submit the content to the Post.
